app-engine took my website offline and how I fixed it

When I got up this morning and checked the logs of this site in the admin dashboard of app-engine, I suspiciously found no activity at all, checking journal.moritzangermann.com gave me a 404 (the same ghs.google.com yields), so what happend? I don’t know either. I suspect that with some updates on the app-engine, e.g. the new quota details, etc., they somehow lost the google-apps domain connection, which resulted in ghs.google.com not knowing where to route the incoming request on host journal.moritzangermann.com. That’s the price we pay for using unfinished products under development.

The fix is quite simple though and can be accomplished in two steps:

  1. log into your google-apps account and delete the app-engine domain association.
  2. log into your app-engine dashboard and recreate the domain association.

That should bring your website back up in seconds.
