Week Ten, Accomplishments
Thesis
After last weeks partial success in getting the subdivision algorithm to actually perform one level of subdivision correctly on all shapes I use to test various algorithmic and aesthetic performances, I rn into the issue of generating ill posed configurations. And so far I have not been able to circumvent them successfully. I was able though to verify a hunch about the arising issues with one of the hyperplane choices; this has not yet been for ally put to paper but that’s exactly the thing I’ll do next.
Life
We are well underway planing our move to the new flat; I am very confident that it will happen very smoothly.
On Friday, April 1st, a flyer from a local software company landed in our mailbox. Apparently they are looking for talented folks to hire. As I am officially out of work since precisely April 1st, I took the chance and went to their office to get to know them. So far it has been really great and they seem to be bunch of bright fun chaps! I hope I will get the chance to work with and for them. We’ll see next week.
iEBT
Our little iPhone and iPod Touch app for the EuroBillTracker website got a few internal lifts; the development version that is soon to be pushed to the AppStore now contains the Appirater tool, that should hopefully increase the number of ratings we get across all countries. So far we have only received two ratings; they are though all five stars, which makes me a little proud.
We have also adapted the new API provided by the fine folks at EuroBillTracker and were thus able to cut back on the cumbersome HTML parser for note verification on insert. The other very cool benefit is the reduction of connections to the server in worst case scenarios and especially for mobile apps, the reduction in transmitted data which means less bandwidth usage and faster response times. Very nice!
After some tweaking I was also able to include our brand new Spanish translation in the App to help our Spanish users.
Finally our website for iEBT: the EuroBillTracker iPhone and iPod Touch App went life with extended content. So far it’s English only (which I regret) and has no application imagery just yet.
Language Learning
Learning process is pretty steady; there is not much to report. I do still need to get hold of the leeches though.
Reading
I’ve just finished “The non-designer’s design book” by Robin Williams. For everyone who wants to get a light introduction into print design, I can highly recommend that book. It’s written very clearly and makes for n easy weekend read.
